Student Opportunities

The Children’s Centre actively supports providing student placement opportunities across a number of disciplines and professions.  We work closely with Lakehead University and Confederation College in order to provide high quality student placements, practicums and internships.  We also, from time to time, will accept placements from other educational institutions outside of Thunder Bay; however this is considered on an individual basis and depends on resources and field supervisor availability.

Currently, the Centre accepts student placements from the following areas:

Service areas include: youth justice, addictions, autism, child welfare, infant & child development, parenting services, outpatient counselling, intensive child and family work, school-based services, residential treatment, group work, family therapy, speech and language .

If you are interested in a student placement opportunity with the Children’s Centre, please contact your educational institution’s placement coordinator or your faculty advisor in order to start the process.

Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in volunteering? Have time to support a great cause? Need those 40 hours of community work to graduate? We've got the solution!

Children's Centre Foundation welcomes volunteers to help us in our mission to support children's mental health. We have volunteer opportunities for our various fundraising events throughout the year. Every dollar we raise stays in Thunder Bay, so you can be sure that your volunteer contribution is directly helping children and families in our community! For more information, call 343-5000 or visit us online at www.ChildrensCentreFoundation.ca.

Board Opportunities

Children's Centre Thunder Bay is a community-based non-profit agency which is governed by a 15 member volunteer Board of Directors. The Board plays a key role in providing strategic leadership and governing the Centre. Board Members are recruited based on a variety of skills and experiences that include but are not limited to finances, human resources, legal, planning, management and social services.

In terms of time commitment, the Board of Directors meets monthly for about 3 hours to conduct the business of the board. In addition to these meetings, most Directors have other responsibilities such as committees, projects, planning, policy work or other initiatives.

For more information, contact Tom Walters, Executive Director at 343-5066.
